Just got back from my very first day ever at San Diego's Comic Con (the whole thing is bananas and I love it), where I had the severely obnoxious fortune of moderating the Dexter panel (you can hate me; I would), and I think it's fair to say that we were all putty in Michael C. Hall's hands.
Check out the totally professional pix above (by renowned photographer Natalie Abrams, aka our intern), and then click in for some musings from the panel and a first look at new footage from season three...
Boy, Sam Witwer sure does give good genre. First he was pilot Crashdown on Battlestar Galactica, and now he'll be taking on Superman himself in season eight of Smallville. According to Witwer, his newly introduced regular character, Davis "Doomsday" Bloome, starts out as a good guy (who has designs on Ms. Chloe herself), but before too long his romantic quest is interrupted by waking nightmares that bode not well for Chloe, Davis, Clark or Metropolis at large. Read on to hear what Samuel had to say about working with Allison Mack, creating Bloome's dark side and why Doomsday is unique in the pantheon of Superman villains.
Viva la Hills! Season four of The Hills premieres Aug. 18 on MTV, and the trailer is above. Some observations taken from same:
Got any Hills-inspired how-tos of your own? Want to work up a WWK Hills drinking game that you would definitely not participate in or be unduly influenced by unless you were of legal drinking age? (E! has nervous lawyers!) In either case, I'll need your suggestions, rules and guidelines for living The Hills life below...
Brooke Smith, aka cardiac surgeon extraordinaire Dr. Erica Hahn on Grey's Anatomy, swung by during the ABC-Disney TCA party to discuss her character's developing relationship with Callie O'Malley (Sara Ramirez), including a powwow with GLAAD and Sara's stunning (no, really, stunning) singing ability.
To celebrate the return of new episodes of Psych every Friday at 10 on p.m. USA Network, I talked to Steve Franks, creator and executive producer, and he was chock-full of delightful dish on Shawn (James Roday) and his lady-friend Juliet (Maggie Lawson), Shawn and his long-missing mom (Cybill Shepherd), and the continuing adventures of Gus, Lassie and the chief. Click in for all the scoop he spilled on guest stars (Jeff Fahey! Justine Bateman!) and why Shawn's mom had to come back if Shawn and Juliet are ever going to be together...
NBC Universal execs Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff just took the stage here at the TV Critics Press Tour, and they were just bursting at the seams with scoop about The Office spinoff. OK, not really, but I know many of you fellow Office die-hards are also hanging onto every word when it comes to the Dunder-verse (as am I), and there were some solid revelations, so here we go...
The newly announced Amy Poehler show will not be an Office spinoff, but they are still working on an Office spinoff.
A little confusing, yes, but based on what the NBC suits said, the just-announced project with Amy Poehler is not a fork of an Office story; it exists as a stand-alone, but it will have a similar tone and style, since it comes from the same writer-producers. At the same time, the execs and writers are also working on an Office spinoff, which will come from the world of Dunder Mifflin.
How was the Battlestar Galactica finale table-read? "Not a dry eye in the house." Jamie Bamber shares that and more about the last days of the rag-tag fleet. Click above for goodies on the future of Battlestar and Bamber's new gig on Law & Order...
Cristine Rose talks about being the boss of us all, and Adrian Pasdar tells me exclusively that he was definitely killed off at the end of last season but that he has been offered a new gig with the Heroes this season. (Actually, he's soooo back, but he's being funny about it. Yay!)
Melora Hardin, aka The Office's Jan, goes on record about how many episodes she'll appear in this season, what she thinks of the new HR vixen working on her man and her take on the introduction of Amy Poehler to the Greg Daniels family of actors.
Mama Taylor herself, the divine Connie Britton of Friday Night Lights, talks about having perspective on the Emmys and working with philanthropic groups in Africa. Only one question: Why, oh why, can't everyone be the awesomeness that is Connie Britton? Also, how are we going to make sure she gets an Emmy nod next year? Any ideas? Please share them below...
Also, stasnd by for the next Watch with Kristin Show, where we'll have more from Connie on Tammy Taylor's new gig as principal this season, and much more Friday Night Lights' upcoming romances. (Spoiler alert: Did I mention Riggs and Lyla and so getting it on, and Landry and Tyra are so drifting apart? Ay, chihuahua!)
